Festive wooden houses made from scrap wood

Wood is a beautiful natural material which can be used to create many things, including magical holiday decorations. That’s why we asked Maja and Malin, members of Belinka’s ambassadors, who create under the FORESTONE DESIGN brand, for advice on how to make a simple wooden decorative piece that will adorn many homes at the end of the year.

To make festive wooden houses from scrap wood, you will need:

  • any scrap wood. The houses in this project were made from walnut, oak and linden scrap wood,
  • a pencil,
  • a small electric saw or a hand saw,
  • a grinding machine or sandpaper (for this project, Maja and Malin used 120 or 180 grit sandpaper),
  • a paintbrush or cloth for applying the oil, and
  • Belinka Oil Interier.

The method of making festive wooden houses from scrap wood

Use any scrap wood. Maja and Malin used walnut, oak and linden wood. The easiest way is to cut the wood that you have chosen into cubes.

Use a pencil to draw outlines of houses of any size on them, then cut them out with a hand saw or a small electric saw. When you’re satisfied with the design of the houses, sand any sharp edges and smooth the surface of the wood.

Once the wooden houses are sanded and dusted, protect them with a transparent coating based on modified vegetable oils with added waxes, used for the finishing surface treatment and maintenance of massive wooden elements indoors – Belinka Oil Interier.

Use a paintbrush or cloth to oil the wood, and after 15 minutes wipe off excess oil with a cotton cloth, which you should then soak in water, as it may otherwise spontaneously combust.

The only thing left now is to arrange the completely dry wooden houses around your home, decorate them with artificial snow if you want and create the perfect festive atmosphere.
