Coffee table made from spruce wood

Ana and Eva, members of Belinka’s group of ambassadors, who create under the Wood & Blonde brand, have made a beautiful coffee table out of sprouce wood and revealed a trick to prevent spruce wood from yellowing over time.

To make a coffee table of spurce wood you will need:

  • a ring of spruce wood,
  • sandpaper and sanding tools,
  • an impact drill,
  • 4 metal legs and screws,
  • the Interier water-based woodstain (Ana in Eva used shades 61 and 73).

The method of making a coffee table from spruce wood

Ana and Eva from Wood & Blonde have made a handy coffee table from spruce wood using the instructions below.

First sand the spruce ring well with 150-220 grit sandpaper, then dust the surface thoroughly to make it ready for coating. Use a thin paint brush with artificial bristles or a roller for water-based materials to apply the Interier water-based woodstain to the wooden surface.

Interier is an environmentally friendly water-borne wood stain designed particularly for wood in interiors. It has no unpleasant odour, protects wood and enhances it. It is available in 2 standard colour tones and also within the HGMIX mixing system. It is resistant to a range of factors. Touching with hands covered in sweat or cream will damage most coatings, but the Interier water-based wood stain is resistant to such factors, so it’s the perfect choice when making a coffee table.

Gradually and intuitively add Interier in creamy white to the naturally translucent Interier woodstain. Adjust the ratio between the two woodstains to suit how bright you want the surface. Ana and Eva used a 3:1 ratio. We recommend that you test the mixture on a test piece of wood before application to make sure you have created the desired shade.

Apply the coating in 2-3 coats, sanding and dusting the surface again before each new application. When the woodstain has dried (the coating is dry in 3 to 4 hours in normal conditions – 20 °C, 65% relative air humidity. At lower temperatures and/or very high air humidity the coating takes longer to dry), all you have to do is attach the black metal legs to the table, which are a beautiful contrast to the light spruce wood.
