Birdhouse made from scrap wood A birdhouse made from scrap wood is a useful and practical addition to your garden or terrace. Maja and Malin, members of Belinka’s group of ambassadors, who create under the FORESTONE DESIGN brand, take you through the process of creating this wonderful wooden decorative piece. To make a birdhouse from scrap wood you will need: old boards (Maja and Malin recycled an old fence), a sanding machine, a saw, staples, screws, reinforcing L profiles, two small hooks, a chain for hanging, a hole saw for the power drill, a pencil, a tape measure, a square ruler, a paintbrush and the Lasur thin-layer woodstain in green and red. The process of making a birdhouse from scrap wood Choose and prepare the old boards that you intend to use to make a birdhouse. Sand them thoroughly and dust them well. Use a pencil to sketch an outline of the birdhouse on the boards, then cut the boards to the intended length. Assemble them together with staples and an impact stapler and use the reinforcing L profiles and screws to connect all the sides and the roof. Then drill a hole in the front and back and attach the hanging hooks to the roof. There is only one step left – protecting the birdhouse with the Lasur thin-layer woodstain. Choose any shades for the birdhouse and apply them in any pattern. After applying the woodstain, the wood texture will remain visible and the final appearance of the surface will be slighty matte. Lasur will take care of UV and weather protection. For the best possible protection of the wood, apply it at least two or three times, remembering that each coat can be applied after 24 hours, or when the previous coat is completely dry. The optimal temperature for coating and drying is between 15 and 25 °C. The drying time is a lot longer at lower temperatures, as well as at higher relative humidity. The colourless Lasur is not suitable for use outdoors. Once the birdhouse is completely dry, hang it up and sprinkle some birdseed for the birds so they can use your new addition.
