Wine holder made from scrap wood

There are many things you can make from scrap wood. Maja and Malin, Belinka’s ambassadors who create under the brand name FORESTONE DESIGN, have prepared tips on how to easily create a wine holder from scrap wood. There’s always room for a gorgeous wooden decoration, isn’t there?

To make a wine holder from scrap, you will need:

  • 3-4 long scrap wood planks (recommended depth/width of the planks is about 25 cm),
  • woodworking machine and sanding machine or sand paper for manual sanding,
  • cut-off saw or hand saw,
  • Neostik AQUA BONT UNIVERSAL adhesive,
  • hand clamps,
  • optional: pencil and paper to design the holder,
  • paintbrush or rag for applying oil,
  • cloth for oil cleaning and
  • Belinka Oil Interier.

The method of making a wine holder from scrap wood

Make sure that all the scrap wood planks are still suitable for re-use. The wood should be solid, dry, free of any wood pests and free from decay. If necessary, remove any nails, screws or other metal parts.

Then treat them with a woodworking machine, followed by sanding on all sides with a sanding machine. Measure the planks and cut them to your prefered size for the wine holder. The planks used for the holder in the photos were cut in the following sizes: 2×32 cm, 6×12 cm 2×44 cm (debth of the used plank 25 cm; width of the plank 4 cm).

After you’ve cut all the planks to the prefered size, the next step is to assemble and glue the wine holder. Apply the Neostik AQUA BONT UNIVERSAL adhesive to the joints on both sides and leave to dry for 12 hours. While the planks are drying, you can fasten them more firmly with hand clamps.

Once the adhesive is dry, all you need to do is protect the wine holder. Use the oil for protection, as it forms a thin film on the surface that gives quality protection and a pleasant smooth surface. Use a paintbrush or a rag to apply Belinka Oil Interier, a coating based on natural vegetable oils with added waxes used for final surface treatment, then after 15 minutes wipe off the excess oil with a cotton cloth. Two coats are necessary for optimum protection of the wood; apply the second coat after 24 hours. Soak the cloth in water after use, otherwise spontaneous combustion may occur.

There, your wine holder is ready for use.
