Herb garden made from pallets Maja and Malin, members of Belinka’s group of ambassadors, who create under the FORESTONE DESIGN brand, present a sustainable project – making a herb garden out of pallets. They take you through the creation process step by step. To make a herb garden out of pallets, you will need: 3 pallets (pallet dimensions 120×80 cm), a tape measure, a pencil, nails, screws and a hammer, jigsaw, sander, hand or machine saw, plastic bags, soil for herbs and herbs of your choice, paintbrush and the Lasur thin-layer woodstain. The process of making a herb garden out of pallets Prepare three pallets and start by removing the back and front boards on the base pallet. This pallet will serve as the garden frame. Cut the long planks for assembling the garden from the remaining two pallets, then use a hammer to remove all the nails from the planks. Then cut the planks to the desired length. Maja and Malin prepared the cut planks for assembling the herb garden in the following dimensions: longer planks: 29 x 44 x 7 cm, shorter planks: 16 x 7 x 8 cm, mini planks for the bottoms of the troughs: 24 x 12 x 7 cm. Use the longer and shorter planks to assemble the front and back of the herb garden. Nail the planks to the frame. Once the frame is assembled, add the bottom to the mini troughs. Add a mini stand to the trough for better balance and stability. Once the herb garden made of pallets is assembled, sand it well and remove impurities. There is only one step left – use a paintbrush to apply the Lasur thin-layer woodstain, which protect wood from the effects of weathering and UV rays, at the same time creating a barrier to keep biocides inside the wood and prevent them from coming in contact with the environment. It can be used to protect outdoor parts when you want to keep the structure of wood visible after coating and achieve a slight matt appearance of the surface. For the best possible protection of the wood, apply it at least two or three times on the surface, remembering that each coating can be applied after 24 hours, or when the previous coating is completely dry. The optimal temperature for coating and drying is between 15 and 25 °C. The drying time is a lot longer at lower temperatures, as well as at higher relative humidity. The colourless Lasur is not suitable for use outdoors. Once the herb garden made from pallets is completely dry, place a plastic bag in each compartment, puncture it in a few places at the bottom (to allow water to drain out when you water the herbs), and plant the herbs in it. Now you just need to place the herb garden in a place of your choosing and take loving care of your herbs so that they can thrive.
